One of the greatest species to target, steelhead are aggressive fighters, big jumpers, and able to outsmart even the most experienced anglers. But once you’ve hooked one you’ll be addicted for life. As they say, “the tug is the drug”. Steelhead Hunter Guide service targets steelhead in the Fall, Winter, and Spring.
In early Fall we’re primarily drift fishing with spinning or fly gear. As November arrives, we switch over to float fishing using either level-wind or center pin gear. This simple fishing approach is extremely effective. We fish this style through the Winter and into the Spring season.
Coho and Chinook Salmon
With the opportunity to catch a 20+ pound fish, chasing King Salmon on the Manistee River is an experience not to be missed. As they enter the river to spawn these fish are aggressive and when you’ve got one on, it’s like hooking a bulldozer!
We fish a broad range of styles for salmon, including Thundersticks, floats, and flies.
The prime season for salmon is late August through October.
The Manistee River holds a tremendous concentration of large brown trout – both native and lake-run. The April – June season offers some of Michigan’s most pleasant days on the water. You’ll target fish from 12-17” with the occasional “hog”. We’ll fish flies or float rigs depending on angler preference and guide recommendations. If you like to catch lots of fish, a river brown trip is for you – we’ll typically see lots of action on these trips! Please note that brown trout fishing is catch and release only.
